Study Programme Tutor

About the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Study Programme Tutor to join our Great Start team.

In this rewarding role, you will deliver engaging Functional Skills English, maths and Employability Skills to young people, helping them develop the knowledge, confidence and workplace skills they need to progress into apprenticeships, further education or employment.

Working with learners aged 16–18 (up to 24 for learners with High Needs), you will provide high-quality teaching, mentoring and pastoral support, adapting your approach to meet individual learning needs and helping every learner achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Programme Delivery

• Plan and deliver engaging Functional Skills English, maths and Employability Skills sessions to individuals and groups.
• Develop creative learning resources for both face-to-face and online delivery.
• Deliver inspiring lessons that motivate learners and support achievement.
• Assess learner progress, mark work and provide constructive feedback.
• Embed English and maths across the wider curriculum.
• Adapt teaching methods and resources to support learners with additional needs and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
• Deliver Personal Development sessions and provide ongoing pastoral support.
• Build positive mentoring relationships with learners, offering appropriate information, advice and guidance.
• Prepare learners for Functional Skills examinations and assessments in collaboration with the Exams Officer.
• Monitor learner progress and maintain accurate records throughout the programme.
• Promote positive behaviour and create an inclusive learning environment.

Quality & Compliance

• Maintain accurate learner documentation and funding records.
• Participate in lesson observations, quality assurance activities and continuous improvement processes.
• Attend team meetings, CPD and training to maintain professional knowledge and teaching practice.
• Promote equality, diversity and inclusion, safeguarding, Prevent and Fundamental British Values throughout all aspects of delivery.
• Support WBTC’s vision of delivering high-quality education and training for every learner.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

• A recognised teaching qualification (such as PTLLS, Cert Ed, PGCE or equivalent) or willingness to work towards one.
• GCSE Grade C/4 (or equivalent Level 2 qualification) in English and maths.
• Experience teaching and assessing English and maths.
• Experience supporting learners with diverse learning needs, including those who may display challenging behaviours.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to motivate, inspire and engage young people.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.

Desirable

• Experience delivering Pearson Functional Skills and Employability qualifications.
• Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) Level 3 qualification.
• Experience delivering online or remote learning.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
